Cardinals Get Road Win, 4-2
|
The Kansas City Royals got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Woodard, but the St. Louis Cardinals still won the game, 4-2. Woodard was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. Steve Chitren locked down his 9th save. St. Louis is now 21-18, while Kansas City is 24-14.
Mexico-born Karim Garcia came through in the clutch. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd and the Cardinals trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run triple to left-center to put St. Louis on top.
"Winning is contagious," said Garcia. "We're looking forward to the next game."
