Spiders Rally For Late Win Over Red Sox
|
The Cleveland Spiders knocked off the Boston Red Sox, 9-5, at Fenway Park. Garret Anderson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Cleveland won. The left fielder was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Sterling Hitchcock earned the win for Cleveland. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 10. With the win, he raised his record to 4-3. Cleveland has now won 3 straight, while the Red Sox have lost 3 in a row.
An important at-bat for Cleveland came with two out in the top of the eighth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Anderson hit a run-scoring single, which contributed to the Spiders win.
Anderson told a Cleveland News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
