The first-place San Francisco Giants welcomed Baltimore to Candlestick Park.

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 9-3, in United League action at Candlestick Park, with San Francisco right fielder Rondell White named player of the game. Mark Portugal, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 8.2 innings.

With San Francisco leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, White hit a fastball from Dave Walsh for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Giants ahead, 7-3.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," White said after the game.

The Giants, now 4-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
