The Chicago Cubs beat the Texas Rangers, 9-5, at Wrigley Field. Chicago catcher Mike Piazza earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Jeff D. Robinson got the win, improving to 4-3. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 3.
