Cardinals Come Up Short at Kansas City
|
Kansas City catcher Rick Wilkins played a vital role in his team's 5-4 triumph over St. Louis. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for Kansas City. Kansas City reliever John Habyan picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Scott Erickson shouldered the loss. Getting the save was Armando Benitez, his 8th.
One important at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the fifth inning. Facing St. Louis hurler Scott Erickson, Ray Lankford, who is tied for 9th in the FL with a .314 batting average, drew a walk. The Royals went on to win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Wilkins. "And not try to do too much."
The Royals improve their record to 25-14 with the win over St. Louis.
