Mattingly Hits 2 home runs in Senators Win
A 4-RBI performance from the two-time Gold Glove winner Don Mattingly helped the Washington Senators beat the Detroit Tigers, 9-1. Jim Neidlinger went 7 innings for Washington to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. His record improves to 5-2. The Senators have an impressive 26-14 record.

A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the bottom of the third inning. That's when center fielder Jon Nunnally, who finished 3rd in the UL in triples with 7 in 1995, drew a walk. The Senators went on to win.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Mattingly told the Washington Herald. "It's as simple as that."
