Giants Fall Short at Los Angeles
|
The Dodgers had to overcome a fine effort from San Francisco pitcher Floyd Youmans to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium. Youmans went 8 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Los Angeles reliever Blas Minor, now 2-1. The loser was Randy Myers. The Dodgers, now 18-23, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
The Dodgers got a big boost from right fielder Melvin Nieves who had a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off Giants hurler Randy Myers. It was his 6th home run of the season and put Los Angeles on top, 3-2.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Nieves said.
