Spiders Get Close Win Over Red Sox
|
The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Spiders provided some drama at Fenway Park.
Cleveland rode a decent outing from starter John Thomson to victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The final score was 6-5. Willie Banks picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Roberto Hernandez was tagged with the loss. Steve Karsay earned the save for Cleveland, his 9th.
Cleveland needed the clutch hitting of Bernard Gilkey to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Spiders on top, 6-5. For the game, Gilkey had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Thomson.
The Spiders, at 22-19, have now won 4 straight.
