Tigers Win at Washington, 5-1
|
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at RFK Stadium, knocking off the Washington Senators, 5-1. Starting pitcher Vaughn Eshelman, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Their 15-26 record puts the Tigers last in the United League East Division.
Detroit second baseman Howard Battle contributed to the cause with a double in the top of the first. For the game, Battle was 2-5 with a double.
"Vaughn is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo.
