Yankees Get Road Win, 6-1
|
The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-1, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium, with New York shortstop Orlando Cabrera named player of the game. Ramon J. Martinez went 5.1 innings for New York to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 2. His record improves to 2-5. Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 14-28 record.
New York used the timely hitting of Kazuhiro Kiyohara to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Yankees ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We played hard and won," said Cabrera. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
