The Washington Senators got a sterling performance from pitcher John Burkett, but the Athletics still prevailed, 4-3. Burkett was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Oakland is now 23-18, while Washington is 13-30.
Jose Canseco struck a blow for the Athletics in the top of the eighth when he hit a solo home run. It put his team ahead, 4-3. For the game, Canseco went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
