Athletics Turn Back Senators, 6-5
|
The skies opened up and the rain fell at RFK Stadium.
The Oakland Athletics topped the Washington Senators by the score of 6-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Jose Canseco. Canseco was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Athletics on the day. Getting the save was Jay Howell, his 7th.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when catcher Benito Santiago, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, hit a single. The Athletics went on to win.
"I felt good up there," said Canseco. "I saw the ball well."
Even with the win, the Athletics have a dismal 13-29 record.
