Pilots Win at Toronto, 7-6
|
The inspired effort of Toronto right fielder Ellis Burks was not enough to prevent a 7-6 loss to the Seattle Pilots. Burks went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Wally Whitehurst got the win, improving to 3-3. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. With the win, Seattle has a record of 19-24. Toronto falls to 22-21.
Terry Steinbach, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, aided the Seattle cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. For the game, the catcher was 1-4.
Steinbach said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
