Devil Rays Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Royals
The Devil Rays faced a stiff challenge from Kansas City pitcher Steve Woodard, but persevered to claim a win at Royals Stadium. The final score was 4-1. Woodard went 8.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Alan Embree in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Armando Benitez took the loss. The Devil Rays bumped their record to 23-22 with this latest triumph.

Orlando used the bat of Brian Jordan to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Devil Rays ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Orlando manager Ben Tennyson.
