Cubs Trip Red Sox, 5-4
|
The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Wrigley Field, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 5-4. Starting pitcher Teddy Higuera played a key role in the triumph. Doug Jones recorded his 8th save for Chicago. Chicago is third in the Federal League Central Division with a record of 25-18.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from right fielder Derek Bell. For the game, Bell was 1 for 3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 9th double of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez. "It's usually not just one thing."
