The San Diego Padres picked up a win at Shea Stadium, knocking off the New York Mets, 6-4. Starting pitcher Mark Langston played a key role in the triumph. Langston picked up the win for San Diego, going 8 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1.

It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Jose Canseco, the two-time All-Star . Canseco contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put San Diego up, 5-3.

"It feels good to get this one," Canseco told the San Diego Today.
