Pirates Get Win, Extend Streak to 4
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Bruce Hurst turned in a top-notch performance against the Minnesota Twins at Three Rivers Stadium. The result was a win for the Pirates, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Hurst, now 3-3. He tossed 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 12. Bryan Harvey got the save, the 13th for him this season.
Bobby Bonilla, who finished 5th in the FL in hits with 189 in 1988, aided the Pittsburgh cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the second. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 3 with a walk.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Pittsburgh skipper Stephen Ginter.
The Pirates, now 25-22, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
