New York right fielder Sammy Sosa played a vital role in his team's 7-4 triumph over Seattle. He went 3-5 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for New York. The winner was New York reliever Darren Dreifort, now 1-1. The loser was Mike Henneman. Wayne Edwards nailed down his 2nd save.

New York took the lead with no one out in the top of the tenth when Tino Martinez stroked a solo home run. That made the score 5-4 in favor of New York. For the day, Martinez went 1-3 with a home run and a walk.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Sosa told the New York Today. "It's as simple as that."

At 25-21, the Mets find themselves in second place in the United League East Division.
