Mets Flog Athletics, 14-2
|
Tino Martinez left his imprint on the 14-2 New York win against the Oakland Athletics. Martinez, who is on pace for 133 RBI this season, went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice. Frank Castillo, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held Oakland to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 13 strikeouts. New York has now won 3 in a row.
With New York leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Martinez hit a curveball from Brian Holman for a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Mets ahead, 4-0.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Martinez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
