The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Washington Senators, 5-3, in United League action at RFK Stadium, with Los Angeles pitcher Bret Saberhagen named player of the game. With two out in the top of the sixth, Mickey Tettleton stroked a go-ahead 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put Los Angeles in front, 5-3.
