Senators Lose, 5-2, at Jack Murphy Stadium
San Diego Padres starter Ismael Valdez was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Washington Senators, 5-2. Earning his 6th save of the year was Robb Nen. The Padres, now 16-29, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.

Jeff Conine had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the fourth for San Diego. With the bases loaded and the Padres leading 3-2, he hit a sacrifice fly.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Conine, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
