Athletics Score Late, Upend Mets, 6-5
|
The Oakland Athletics stopped the New York Mets, 6-5, at Oakland Coliseum. The Athletics got a big game from Herbert Perry, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Athletics, now 19-28, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Geronimo Pena was the walk-off hero for Oakland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Athletics second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Perry.
