Sele Fashions No-Hitter Against Tigers
|
Fans at Dodger Stadium got a rare gift today as Aaron Sele of the Dodgers tossed a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers.
Although Sele did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, he turned masterful as the game went on, ultimately striking out 9 and walking 1 in a 6-0 Los Angeles victory.
"We had our chances in the first few innings when he was hittable, and we couldn't capitalize on them," Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo said later. "In the last four or five innings, he totally shut us down."
In all, Sele faced only 28 batters. While getting into his groove, he was helped by several defensive gems.
"I don't remember a better-pitched game," Dodgers manager Dave Ginter said. "And how about our defense today?"
For the year Sele has compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.50 ERA.
