In 12, St. Louis Sinks Cleveland, 6-3
|
Bernard Gilkey did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Cleveland Spiders from losing the game, 6-3, to the St. Louis Cardinals in 12 innings at League Park. Gilkey was 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2. Brad Clontz picked up the save, his 1st. With the win, the Cardinals sit at 31-19.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Jim Edmonds, the top prospect . Edmonds contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning to put St. Louis up, 4-3.
"That's what these guys do," said Cardinals manager Adam Rabel. "They battle, they fight."
