Cubs Score Late, Upend Reds, 2-1
|
Chicago beat Cincinnati in a rain-soaked ballgame.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds, Scott Garrelts was the difference-maker. The Chicago right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-1 win. The Cubs, now 28-20, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Vinny Castilla, the 29-year old third baseman . Castilla contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Chicago up, 2-1.
"Scott is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez.
