Padres Beat Visiting Blue Jays, 7-3
|
It was a good time at Jack Murphy Stadium, where fans came to watch the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres get after it.
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Manny Ramirez, the San Diego Padres defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-3. Ramirez went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Padres. David Wells picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-3. He struck out 8 in 5 innings. The save was credited to Steve Howe, his 1st.
Spike Owen, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, aided the San Diego cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first. For the game, the second baseman went 1-3 with a walk.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Owen. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
At 23-27, the Padres are currently 4th in the United League West Division.
