Tigers Lose to Oakland, 4-2
|
At Oakland Coliseum, the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Oakland pitcher Kurt Kepshire had a large part in his team subduing the Detroit Tigers, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The Athletics now have a record of 18-30 with the win over Detroit.
Benito Santiago had a big 3-run home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the third inning. With Oakland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 30-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Neidlinger and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 4-0.
"It was a real good effort by Kurt," said Oakland manager Jim B. "I loved the way he bore down."
