Orioles Prove Rude Guests, Win 7-4 at Los Angeles
|
Bill Spiers was instrumental in his team's 7-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The second baseman was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Baltimore Orioles. Ben McDonald, the winner, improved to 3-5. He held the Dodgers to 4 earned runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. The 5th-place Orioles improved to 22-26.
Spiers contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Baltimore in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Spiers took a slider from Ugueth Urbina and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Orioles to leap in front, 3-1.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Spiers.
