The Charlotte Knights topped the Boston Red Sox, 7-4, with right fielder Orlando Merced playing a big role. Merced was 2-6 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Knights in the win. Charlotte reliever Tim Burke got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Paul Assenmacher was tagged with the loss. Charlotte has now won 5 games in a row.
With two out in the top of the 14th, Neifi Perez had a game-changing hit. The Knights third baseman slammed a run-scoring single off Mike Remlinger, making the score 5-4, Charlotte.
"I believe in our guys," said Charlotte skipper Tyler Vuxta. "I like the energy they're playing with."
