Red Sox Trip Cardinals, 5-4
|
St. Louis got a terrific game from shortstop John Valentin. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Boston, 5-4. Valentin was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Boston now sits in 5th place in the Federal League East Division at 25-24.
Omar Vizquel had a big run-scoring single for the Red Sox in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Boston leading 3-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a curveball from Joe Johnson and stroked the single to center. It was his 40th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 4-1.
"We take it day by day here," said Vizquel, "and today was a good one for us."
