Pirates Prove Rude Guests, Win 7-2 at Chicago
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates knocked off the Chicago Cubs, 7-2, at Wrigley Field. Andy Van Slyke, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Pittsburgh won. The first baseman went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Pittsburgh goes to 26-24, Chicago to 26-22.
One important at-bat came with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Chicago hurler Teddy Higuera, Carlos Baerga, who finished 5th in the FL in hits with 179 last year, hit a single. The Pirates went on to win.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Baerga.
