Orioles Lose to Athletics, 6-4
|
Spirited fans at Memorial Stadium greeted the Baltimore Orioles for their clash with the Oakland Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics topped the Baltimore Orioles, 6-4, in United League action at Memorial Stadium. The player of the game was Oakland first baseman John Olerud. William VanLandingham got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Todd Van Poppel earned the save, his 2nd, for the Athletics.
Olerud came through with some timely hitting for Oakland. With the score 4-3 in the top of the fifth and one down, Olerud hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season made it 6-3, Oakland.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Olerud told the Oakland Today.
Losses have been few and far between for the Orioles, who are now 3-1.
