Devil Rays Subdue St. Louis, 3-2
|
Orlando Devil Rays starter Alan Benes pitched a strong game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Orlando Citrus Bowl, leading the Devil Rays to a 3-2 win. In 7 innings, Benes surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. The Devil Rays raised their record to 27-24.
Tim Salmon's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning was a big one for Orlando. Coming to bat with no one out, the bases empty and Orlando leading 2-0, the right fielder hit a solo home run.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Orlando skipper Ben Tennyson.
