Down to Defeat Goes San Francisco, 4-3
|
Montreal registered a win at Olympic Stadium by beating the San Francisco Giants, 4-3. Pitcher Ed Correa was one reason why the Expos triumphed. Correa, now 5-5, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 7, and allowing 3 runs. Dave Leiper closed it out for Montreal, earning his 2nd save.
Todd Hundley had a big 2-run home run for the Expos in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Montreal trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Mark Portugal and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Expos on top, 2-1.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Expos manager David Polakoff, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
By defeating San Francisco, the second-place Expos improved to 32-19.
