Padres Win at Home, 2-1
|
David Wells, who is tied for 4th in the UL in wins with 6, was terrific for the San Diego Padres in his team's 2-1 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays. His performance earned Wells rave reviews. Mike Schooler collected save number 1. The setback makes Toronto 34-16.
The Padres got a big at-bat from right fielder Manny Ramirez. For the game, Ramirez went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 17th home run of the season gave San Diego a 2-1 lead.
"This was a game where every at-bat, every pitch counted," said Wells.
