Royals Win at New York, 6-3
|
Kansas City starter Bobby J. Jones pitched effectively against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 6-3 win. Jones went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 6-4. Armando Benitez finished to wrap up his 9th save.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when first baseman Jim Thome, who finished 4th in the FL in OPS with .906 in 1995, hit a single. The Royals went on to win.
"It was a solid team effort," said Jones after the game.
New York is in the throes of a 9-game losing streak.
