Cardinals Pull Even With 8-4 Victory
The Cleveland Spiders and St. Louis Cardinals cranked it up at League Park.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 8-4, at League Park. St. Louis designated hitter Troy Neel was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Francisco Cordova, the winner, improved to 5-5. He held the Spiders to 1 earned run on 3 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3.

One of the stars of the game was St. Louis first baseman Ivan Calderon. In the top of the first with one out, he got a fastball from Bob Sebra and hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 3-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

"It feels good to get this one," Calderon told the St. Louis Bulletin.

The Cardinals bumped their record to 26-26 with this latest triumph.
