Chicago Downs Orlando, 5-3
|
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Orlando Sun Rays, 5-3, in part because of designated hitter Mo Vaughn. Vaughn was 3-4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times for the White Sox. Chicago is now 23-29, Orlando 21-31.
Nelson Santovenia had a big 2-run triple for the White Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Chicago leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from John Smoltz, who led the FL in strikeouts with 263 in 1992, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the White Sox ahead, 5-0.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Vaughn.
