Buhner Slugs Senators to 7-5 Win
|
The Washington Senators topped the Seattle Pilots, 7-5, in United League action at Kingdome. The player of the game was Washington right fielder Jay Buhner. John Mitchell got the win, improving to 5-5. He held the Pilots to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Earning his 5th save of the year was Tim Burke.
It could have been a different outcome for Washington, had it not been for Tony Longmire, the 25-year old left fielder . Longmire contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Washington up, 4-2.
"I had some good swings out there," said Buhner.
Even with the win, the Senators have a dismal 16-37 record.
