Giants Clip Tigers in Tight Contest
Giants shortstop Jay Bell put his stamp on his team's 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Bell went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs for San Francisco in the contest. San Francisco is now 36-14, 10½ games up in the United League West Division.

San Francisco third baseman Craig Counsell had a key at-bat for the Giants in the bottom of the ninth inning. Facing right-hander Francisco Oliveras, Counsell hit a walk-off run-scoring single. It put San Francisco in front, 5-4. For the day, Counsell was 1 for 4.
