Rockies Trip Blue Jays, 7-6
|
Colorado took on Toronto in front of a lively crowd.
Toronto center fielder Mark Whiten had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Whiten went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2, even as Colorado beat the Blue Jays, 7-6. Bob Ojeda, the winning pitcher, is now 7-4. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 4. Mike Hartley closed the game out for Colorado, earning his 1st save.
Juan Gonzalez delivered a big hit for Colorado. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rockies ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"Winning is contagious," said Gonzalez. "We're looking forward to the next game."
Colorado currently is in first place in the United League West Division at 34-19.
