Multi-HR Game for Galarraga in 8-3 Win
|
The Oakland Athletics took on the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium.
In the 8-3 Oakland win over Baltimore, the impact of Andres Galarraga was substantial. Galarraga, who finished 3rd in the UL in slugging percentage with .525 in 1989, hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Jamie Moyer went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. The left-hander struck out 4 and walked 1. With the win, he ups his record to 4-5 this season.
With Oakland leading 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Galarraga hit a fastball from Steve Avery for a grand slam home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and put the Athletics ahead, 6-1.
"Andres leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Oakland manager Jim B.
Oakland is now 20-32. Baltimore is 21-31.
