Detroit Tops San Francisco, 7-3
|
With Tony Fernandez leading the charge, the Detroit Tigers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 7-3. Fernandez went 3-5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Tigers. Detroit is 26-26 and San Francisco, with the loss, 21-30.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Albert Belle to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tigers on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Fernandez told the Detroit Observer. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
