The San Diego Padres took Baltimore pitcher Steve Avery's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Jack Murphy Stadium. The final score had San Diego getting past the Orioles, 6-2. Avery went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, striking out 8. San Diego currently is in last place in the United League West Division at 19-32.
Jeff Conine chipped in for San Diego, stroking a crucial 2-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
Conine told a San Diego Today reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
