Spiders Bang Out 9-6 Win Versus Minnesota
The Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Spiders cranked it up at Metrodome.

Cleveland third baseman Kevin Mitchell made his presence felt in the 9-6 Spiders triumph over the Minnesota Twins. Mitchell went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Tim Wakefield, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 6 hits, while walking 6 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 1-3.

It could have been a different outcome for Cleveland, had it not been for Howard Johnson, the 34-year old first baseman . Johnson contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Cleveland up, 2-0.

"We played hard and won," said Mitchell. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Their 21-32 record puts the Spiders 5th in the Federal League East Division.
