Orioles Score Late, Upend Padres, 4-3
|
Baltimore beat San Diego at Jack Murphy Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Ben McDonald, who earned player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was McDonald, now 4-5. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 3. Earning his 6th save for Baltimore was Roger McDowell.
It could have been a different outcome for Baltimore, had it not been for Matt Nokes, the six-time All-Star . Nokes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Baltimore up, 4-3.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," McDonald said after the game.
The Orioles now have a record of 24-29.
