Bobby Bonilla, named player of the game, was 3 for 4, including 1 single and 2 home runs. The Pittsburgh designated hitter scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Pittsburgh reliever Bryan Harvey picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Andy Ashby absorbed the loss. With the win, Pittsburgh goes to 30-25, while the Yankees fall to 24-30.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Lance Blankenship came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing New York pitcher Andy Ashby, he hit a 1-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 7-6.
