Cardinals Roll to 8-2 Win Over Twins
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Scott Erickson had all his pitches working at Busch Stadium. His stellar performance paved the way for an easy 8-2 St. Louis win over the Minnesota Twins. The winning pitcher was Erickson, now 4-5. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 3. St. Louis is now riding a 3-game win streak.
John Valentin had a big 2-run double for the Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Hideo Nomo and stroked the double to left. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 3-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Erickson.
