Padres Stymie Oakland, Take 4-1 Win
|
San Diego Padres starter Mark Langston turned in an exceptional performance against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum, resulting in a San Diego win, 4-1. Langston, the winner, moves to 3-4. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. Wes Gardner converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
San Diego took a 3-1 lead on Alex S Gonzalez's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Oakland pitcher Kurt Kepshire in the top of the seventh.
"Mark did a tremendous job," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds.
With the win over Oakland, the Padres improved to 25-31.
