Red Sox Raise Rally Flag, Beat New York, 2-1

The Boston Red Sox went home winners at Yankee Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Eric Plunk. Plunk silenced the New York Yankees, enabling Boston to grab the 2-1 win. In 7 innings, Plunk surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Even with the win, the Red Sox have a dismal 15-40 record.
Had Akira Eto not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Eto hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Red Sox.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said New York manager Tigerr Wolfe. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
