Spiders Hapless Against Devil Rays, Smoltz
|
John Smoltz never let Cleveland get something going. The Orlando right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Devil Rays to a 3-1 win. Xavier Hernandez got credit for the save for Orlando. It was his 6th of the year. The 4th-place Spiders have lost 5 consecutive games.
Smoltz imposed his will on the Spiders, scattering 2 hits over 7 innings while striking out 9. The right-hander upped his season record to 6-5.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Smoltz said.
