Cubs Win at Kansas City, 8-4
|
Kansas City center fielder Reggie L. Sanders had a good game, even if his team did not. The Royals dropped a 8-4 decision to Chicago at Royals Stadium. Sanders went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mike Hampton went 5.2 innings for Chicago to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 4 earned runs. He scattered 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record improves to 5-1. Doug Jones closed the door for Chicago, picking up his 12th save of the year.
Geronimo Pena put Chicago in front, 3-2, when he took Denny Neagle downtown. His 2-run home run came with one out in the top of the fourth. It was his 13th home run of the season.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Pena, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The third-place Cubs improved to 32-23.
