Mets Lick Senators, 12-2
|
The Washington Senators and New York Mets met at RFK Stadium to settle a score.
The exploits of first baseman Tino Martinez, who is tied for 8th in the UL in RBI with 45, helped the New York Mets defeat the Washington Senators, 12-2. Martinez went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Tom Glavine earned the win to go to 7-3. He allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
The Mets got a big at-bat from designated hitter Hal Morris. For the game, Morris went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Martinez.
The Mets, at 33-23, have now won 4 straight.
