Expos Prevail, 7-5, Over Florida
|
The Montreal Expos beat the Florida Marlins, 7-5, at Joe Robbie Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of right fielder Gregg Jefferies, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Montreal reliever Chris Bosio was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Chris Hammond took the loss for Florida. Ken Howell finished to wrap up his 13th save.
Montreal used the timely hitting of Chad Curtis to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Expos on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Jefferies told the Montreal Daily. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
The second-place Expos improved to 32-24.
