Close Win Moves Tigers to 19-37
|
Detroit rode a fine outing from starter Vaughn Eshelman to victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Tiger Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Rigo Beltran was called on to finish, recording his 9th save. Detroit is now 19-37, while Baltimore is 25-31.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from third baseman Russ Johnson. For the game, Johnson went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 4th double of the season gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Johnson. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
