The Cincinnati Reds topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 8-1, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Bernie Williams. Williams was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Reds. The Reds bumped their record to 34-24 with this latest triumph.

Cincinnati took a 3-1 lead on Williams's 8th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Guy Hoffman in the top of the eighth, propelled Cincinnati to the win.
